Mississippi College Project Arrowhead Researchers Interview Former Terrorist
At a Chicago hotel room, Mississippi College professors interviewed a former terrorist who spent ten years in prison. It was quite a remarkable experience. The March session gave researchers with MC's Project Arrowhead important insights to help in the fight against global terrorism.

UA Little Rock students present Collision! Bodyworks 2019
The University of Arkansas Little Rock Department of Theatre Arts and Dance and Ballet Arkansas held its first-ever combined dance concert April 25-28. This event is the launch of the partnership between the UA Little Rock dance program and Ballet Arkansas. The university's annual spring Bodyworks concert showcases choreography by dance faculty and Ballet Arkansas company member Deanna Stanton. A special highlight of the concert was the premiere of "Collision," choreographed by Ballet Arkansas Executive Director Michael Fothergill and performed by UA Little Rock students and Ballet Arkansas company members.

UA Little Rock student entrepreneurs come out on top at Arkansas Governor's Cup
A dream team of student entrepreneurs from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has won two of the top honors at the Arkansas Governor's Cup Collegiate Business Plan Competition, a statewide business plan competition for college and graduate students sponsored by Arkansas Capital Corporation. The Vascugenix team won first place in the Winrock Automotive Undergraduate Division and a $25,000 prize. The team also captured first place and a prize of $5,000 in the undergraduate Innovate Arkansas Innovation Division for a total of $30,000 in prize money. Team members include UA Little Rock students Noah Asher, senior finance and economics major and Donaghey Scholar; Abigail Resendiz, senior international business and management major and Donaghey Scholar; and Zach Cochran, senior economics major. Martial Trigeaud, a UA Little Rock adjunct professor and business consultant at the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center, serves as the team's mentor.

UA Little Rock Student Entrepreneurs win $40,000 at e-Fest
After winning the undergraduate and innovation divisions at the Arkansas Governor's Cup last week, a dream team of student entrepreneurs from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has continued their winning streak by taking home $40,000 at e-Fest 2019. Team Vascugenix earned third place and $20,000 April 11-13 at e-Fest 2019, a venture pitch competition that is part of the Schulze Entrepreneurship Challenge, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The students also placed first in the innovation division, earning them an additional $20,000.

UA Little Rock Business Students Selected to Participate in Schulze Entrepreneurship Challenge
A team of business students from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is one of 25 teams selected to participate in the Schulze Entrepreneurship Challenge at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. Funded by the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, the challenge is the largest undergraduate-only venture pitch competition in North America in terms of cash prizes with a top prize of $75 and $250K in total prizes awarded. UA Little Rock's team is one of 25 finalists selected from more than 100 entries representing 61 colleges and universities across America. Students will participate in a "pitch slam" elevator pitch event and an innovation challenge in addition to the featured competition during April 11-13. The "Vascugenix" team is comprised of UA Little Rock students Noah Asher, senior finance and economics major; Abigail Resendiz, senior international business and management major; and Zach Cochran, senior economics major. Martial Trigeaud, a UA Little Rock adjunct professor and business consultant at the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center, is mentoring the team.

UA Little Rock students participate in Bilateral Model Arab League
More than 20 University of Arkansas at Little Rock students participated in the Bilateral Model Arab League Conference Feb. 15-17 in Houston. The Model Arab League is a student leadership development program created by the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations. It is a simulation of an international organization, the League of Arab States, which has 22 member countries. Students met with the Egyptian Consulate to help them prepare to represent Egypt during the conference. UA Little Rock students also represented Kuwait and Morocco.

UA Little Rock Business Students Selected to Participate in Rice Business Plan Competition
A team of business students from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has been selected as one of 42 teams from some of the world's top universities who will compete for more than $1.5 million in prizes at the Rice Business Plan Competition April 4-6. The competition has been dubbed as the world's richest and largest student startup competition with a top prize of a $300,000 investment from the GOOSE Society. UA Little Rock was the only team from Arkansas selected to compete. The "Vascugenix" team is comprised of UA Little Rock students Noah Asher, senior finance and economics major; Abigail Resendiz, senior international business and management major; and Zach Cochran, senior economics major. UA Little Rock business students take second place at international entrepreneurship competition
A team of business students from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock have won second place and a $3,000 prize at the international Ivey Business Plan Competition held Jan. 25-27 in Ontario, Canada, for their business plan for a device designed to help interventional cardiologists perform minimally invasive heart surgery with greater safety and efficiency. The team is comprised of UA Little Rock students Noah Asher, senior finance and economics major, Abigail Resendiz, senior international business and management major, and Zach Cochran, senior economics major. The group collaborated with Arkansas Cardiology Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Dwight Chrisman and Baptist Health Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Nurse Anna Helm to commercialize a medical device invented by Chrisman. The device, the "Speed-Torque," is a medical torque device used by surgeons in minimally invasive heart surgery, also known as interventional cardiology procedures.

Several University of Arkansas at Little Rock students volunteered their time by helping to organize the High School Model Arab League Feb. 22-23, where more than 170 Arkansas high school students participated in an annual international leadership program that gives students a taste of life as international diplomats.

UA Little Rock Nursing Students Shop With a Cop
More than 30 nursing students from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock brought some Christmas cheer to families in North Little Rock by volunteering at the annual "Shop with A Cop" program last month. Tommy Norman, a North Little Rock police officer who has gained national attention for his positive community policing and outreach efforts, started the "Shop with a Cop" program, now in its 13th year, to help financially struggling students at Christmas time.

UA Little Rock researchers study impact of faith-based community engagement in Little Rock
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is researching how places of worship in Little Rock work with nonprofit organizations to promote community engagement and provide social services to vulnerable populations. The Little Rock Congregations Study is part of an ongoing research project led by Dr. Rebecca Glazier, professor in the School of Public Affairs, stemming from research begun in 2012 to study the effects of religious organizations on community engagement in Little Rock. The interdisciplinary project brought together 59 student researchers from UA Little Rock who gained invaluable research experience. More than 110 clergy members from congregations across Little Rock completed the survey, while 24 clergy were interviewed. Additionally, students wrote 22 community spotlight stories.

UA Little Rock students reach hackathon finals
University of Arkansas at Little Rock student teams took two of the nine final spots at the UA BlockChain Hackathon at the University of Arkansas held Sept. 28-29. The hackathon featured 21 teams from Arkansas colleges and universities and was sponsored by nine large businesses such as IBM, Tyson, Heifer International, and J.B. Hunt, who provided challenges focused on using BlockChain technology for teams to present during the competition. Each of the nine sponsors chose a team to advance to the finals where they presented their results against the winners of other challenges.

Metro BCM wins Reach 13,000 Dodgeball Tournament
The UA Little Rock Reach 13,000 Campaign kicked off with a dodgeball tournament that ended in an all-out battle between a campus ministry.The tournament finale came down to a showdown between Metro BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministry) Team #1 and Metro BCM Team #2. Metro BCM Team#1 came out on top as the winner. Amber Wolf, coordinator of the Chancellor's Leadership Corps, which runs the Reach 13,000 Campaign, would argue that everyone came out a winner in the end. The winning team members include Chyna Dial, Anthony Freeman, Hunter Hobby, Sam Jordan, Lucee Lugo, Logan Snapp, Nia Washington, Mat Wheeler, and Taemora Williams.
